5. 关于中文“例”字,是译成“case”还是“ patient”？

一些作者在翻译中文“例”一词时，有时候译成“case”，有时候译成“patient”。

应该指出，“case”的意思是“事例”，比如“一个伤疾或外科手术的事例”。 这个“事例”或“例子”是不能“发病”、“住院”和得到治疗、手术的。能“发病”、“住院”和得到治疗、手术的是“病人”、“患者”。所以，前者要译成“case”，后者要译成“ patient”。

例1：100例患者中有50进行了B超检查

Of 100 patients, 50 underwent a B ultrasound

例2：2011年2月~2012年1月76例乳腺外科患者76例乳腺外科患者

例3：艾滋病毒（HIV）感染者32例，以青年为主，20～30岁占75%

例4：几年来共收治50例GCS3~8分手术的重型颅脑损伤病人,开颅术中发生急性脑膨出的有15例

以上的翻译是可以的，但如下更佳。
